Bravose Previews: Fights happening in September 2020 - Bravose

As the world of boxing continues back on the road to recovery after the coronavirus-enforced break earlier this year, an ever-increasing number of fights are taking place in an ever-expanding list of locations.

During the month of September, nine titles are set to be disputed. A host of other match-ups are on the cards too.

Here we take a look ahead to this month’s schedule.

Wednesday 2 September at LS-LIVE, Wakefield, UK

Akeem Ennis Brown (13-0, 1 KO) will take on Philip Bowes (20-3, 3 KOs) for the British and Commonwealth Super-Lightweight Titles. The undefeated Brown has youth on his side being as he is 12 years younger than his opponent. But Bowes has some motivation with the chance to make history as the oldest person ever to win the British title in the super-lightweight division. Neither boxer has fought since March 2019.

Saturday 5 September at MGM Grand Ballroom, Las Vegas

Jamel Herring (21-10, 10 KOs) will finally defend his WBO Super-Featherweight Title from Jonathan Oquendo (31-6, 19 KOs) after two previous cancellations. The delays occurred on both expected fight dates in early July due to former United States Marine and London 2012 Olympics boxing team member Herrings twice testing positive for coronavirus. After defeating the deadly virus, Herring will be relieved to be taking on Puerto Rican Oquendo.

Sunday 6 September at Microsoft Theater, LA, USA

The vacant WBA Welterweight Title will be contended by Cuban Yordenis Ugas (25-4, 12 KOs) and American Abel Ramos (26-3-2, 20 KOs). After a heart-breaking split decision went against him in his title fight with Shawn Porter in March 2019, Ugas will be more keen than ever to secure the accolade of world champion and make his home country proud. With an eight-fight winning streak, hard-hitter Ramos will no doubt make it competitive.

Saturday 26 September at BT Sport Studios, London, UK

Scot Josh Taylor (16-0, 12 KOs) will fight Thai Apinun Khongsong (16-3, 13KOs) for the WBA and IBF Super-Lightweight Titles. It is Taylor’s first appearance since victory over the previously unbeaten Regis Prograis, when he added the American's WBA title to his own IBF version secured against the then-unbeaten Ivan Baranchyk. Khongsong (16-0, 13 KOs) has knocked out his last six opponents while winning the IBF Pan Pacific and IBF Asia titles.

Saturday 26 September at Mohegan Sun, Connecticut, USA

It will be a busy night for title fights with Jermell Charlo vs Jeison Rosaro (WBA, WBC & IBF Super-Welterweight Title), Jermall Charlo vs Sergiy Derevyanchenko (WBC Middleweight Title), Luis Nery vs Aaron Alameda (WBC Super-Bantamweight Title), John Riel Casimero vs Duke Micah (WBO Bantamweight Title)Daniel Roman vs Juan Carlos Payano (Super-Bantamweight) and Brandon Figueroa vs Damien Vasquez (WBA ‘Regular’ Super-Bantamweight Title).
