How to keep fighting fit during the Covid-19 pandemic

Social distancing and self-isolating - not to mention the closure of gyms - have made it incredibly hard to keep training and boxing since the Covid-19 pandemic hit the UK in March.

But keeping your passion for boxing alive is more important than ever in the current climate of uncertainty and constantly changing restrictions.

While boxing itself won’t protect you from Covid-19, it will help you to fight the physical and mental effects of the virus and the enforced changes it has brought on to all of our lives.

The physical effort of training releases endorphins, the chemicals produced by the body to relieve stress and pain. It can improve so many aspects of your health, from increasing your fitness, to strengthening your immune system, and helping you sleep more soundly.

The mental rewards for keeping up boxing during these uncertain times include a boosted mood, a sense of fulfilment, and a stronger sense of control.

But as our daily routines continue to be restricted to ever-varying degrees, it can be difficult to keep boxing, both from a practical and an emotional point of view.

Practically, access to training facilities and equipment has become limited, while the financial impact of the virus has affected our ability to pay out for either of these things.

Emotionally you may be missing the routine of normal life, the social connection of being in a group setting or the motivation of working with a trainer one-to-one.

But here at Bravose we believe we can all try to find new ways to get training and stay in touch with boxing.

Here we take a look at some ideas to help you keep fighting fit during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Creating a home boxing gym

Making your own dedicated space for boxing training at home could be more doable than you think.

Whether you have a little or a lot of space free, just a few key pieces of equipment can make this idea a reality. Our blog post will take you through how to build your own home boxing gym.

Updating your kit

Caring for your kit

Hygiene has never been more important than during the pandemic, but at any time your gear can become a breeding ground for germs and bad smells. Caring for your kit can also be therapeutic and fulfilling.

Our blog on how to clean and maintain your boxing gloves will take you through tips to keep your boxing kit clean, fresh and odour-free.

Training at home

While there are options around kit and facilities as outlined above, one of the best parts about boxing for physical fitness is that you can do it completely equipment-free.

Our simple home boxing workout is designed to build strong arms and shoulders, increase core strength and stability, and improve coordination and fitness levels.

Getting inspiration
