Realise your true potential – six creative methods to overcome your limitations

Everyone has physical and mental limitations. But have you ever stepped back and asked yourself what you can do to overcome them?
As a boxer or martial artist it’s essential to find ways to push your body and mind to the next level.
That’s why we’ve compiled this list of six creative methods to help you unlock your inner fighter and become the champion you were born to be.
It may sound like a cliché but visualisation techniques are one of the most powerful tools for unlocking your potential.
By visualising yourself first in a location - say, the ring - and then doing an action - for example getting a KO - you can mentally practise the scenario.
This allows you to experience the emotions involved. By focusing in this manner, you can subconsciously change the path of your life.
If everyday you visualised yourself, climbing the ranks - opponent by opponent - until you reached your first title match, and then imagined the feeling of knocking out the current champion, hearing the crowd erupt and seeing the belt around you - you would implant that within your mind and subconsciously strive toward it.
Meditation is well known for its ability to reduce stress and increase focus.
When done right, it will also help improve your physical performance by allowing you to stay present and concentrated, both during training and fights.

Taking a few minutes out of each day for some mental training isn’t that much of an investment - and it will pay off in spades down the line.
Read books, watch videos and learn
Expand your knowledge base by reading books and watching videos about boxing.
This will give you new ideas on how to become more proficient and you will always be able to learn something new.
You are not the best in history. So you will never finish learning.
Reading biographies of successful fighters will also provide valuable insight into their various approaches towards training and competing, as well as giving you access to their thought patterns and life choices.
Writing down your limiting thoughts and beliefs is a great way to overcome them.
Throughout history, famous warrior societies, most notably the Greek and the Samurai, were proficient writers.
The easiest way to discuss your thoughts with yourself, is to not just think them but to write them down.
You will learn so much by putting pen to paper about what is actually stopping you from achieving your dreams.
Sit down for 15 minutes and write down everything that’s in your way, no matter how insignificant it seems.
Practise mindfulness and gratitude
It’s important to not only focus on what needs improvement but also recognise what is already working well in our lives and be grateful for that.
Practising mindfulness and gratitude might not seem important, but by being grateful for our current life, we can stay focused on our goals while remembering that life isn't all about perfecting our craft – it is also about living in the present and enjoying life.
If you are always chasing the next thing or next goal, you will never appreciate how far you have come…
